New Certificate Program Launched: “Sophia-Africa Future Initiatives for Collaborations (SAFICs)”

Under this initiative, building on Sophia University’s accumulated achievements in educational and research collaboration with the African region, we will introduce new courses and programs in an integrated manner and launch a new certificate program titled “Sophia-Africa Future Initiatives for Collaborations (SAFICs).”

This program aims to cultivate students who can contribute broadly to society by approaching issues from multiple perspectives—including anthropology, sociology, economics, and global environmental studies—and by working toward the realization of a sustainable, circular society that balances economic development and environmental conservation, particularly in the African context.

Sophia University offers a wide range of courses and practical activities related to Africa, international cooperation, and global environmental issues. While these can be taken individually, students who complete them in a structured manner and earn the required credits will be awarded the certificate “Sophia-Africa Future Initiatives for Collaborations (SAFICs)” (Open Badge)*.

This certificate serves as evidence of student’ learning, demonstrating the issues they have engaged with and how they have developed their knowledge and skills—valuable for future academic pursuits and career opportunities.

To obtain the SAFICs certificate, students must complete the core course “Sophia-Africa Future Initiatives for Collaborative Solutions (SAFICS),” three courses selected from the designated elective group, and one practical course, and then apply for the certificate.

Detailed requirements and application procedures are available on the student portal site, My Sophia.

Exchange students from African countries are also eligible to obtain this certificate by fulfilling the requirements during their study period at Sophia University.

We look forward to the active participation of our students!
