Sophia University Selected for MEXT “Inter-University Exchange Project: Africa”
Sophia University has been selected for the MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Inter-University Exchange Project with Global South Countries: Africa Region. This project aims to develop globally competent human resources and strengthen the global outreach capabilities of universities. While ensuring the quality of higher education, it supports international educational collaboration with universities in the target countries and regions and promoting study abroad opportunities for both Japanese and international students.
Sophia University is the only private university to have been selected through a single-institution application, and this selection reflects the high evaluation of the Sophia University’s long-standing achievements in educational and research collaboration with African partners, as well as the strong potential of its future initiatives.
The selected project, titled “Developing Leaders Who Contribute to Solving Global Environmental Challenges through International Collaboration,” will be implemented over a five-year period starting in FY2025. In collaboration with seven universities across Africa, the program aims to cultivate next-generation leaders equipped with interdisciplinary expertise and strong international collaboration skills. Through a multi-layered co-learning platform that integrates coursework with practical training, students will gain hands-on experience in identifying and addressing global challenges and develop the capacity to contribute on the international stage.
Details of the project and updates on the latest activities will be posted regularly on this website.
